East Lansing Safe Routes to School (ELSRTS) promotes safe, non-motorized transportation for students going to and from school. Walking, biking, and rolling are healthy and mindful ways to start and end the school day, promoting positive, lifelong habits, and helping to ease traffic and pollution around our schools.
We partner with East Lansing Public Schools, the City of East Lansing, Meridian Township, Michigan State University, and community members who are invested in the safety and well-being of our students.
What We Do
Safe Routes to School programming is supported by two types of funding: mini grants and major grants. Each type of funding allows us to serve East Lansing students from Kindergarten through Grade 8! Visit our Funding page to learn more about our funding and projects.
Our funding is awarded through the Michigan Fitness Foundation and the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), through a Federal Highway Administration program.
